Celebrating 5 Years of Growth!

The doors to the Primary Health Clinic are made of the local trees found in the tropical rain forest that surround this 3,000 square foot facility.  Open 24 hours a day to serve the isolated villages of the Wasparani watershed in Eastern Honduras, this center administered by PREDISAN has delivered over 2,500 health encounters in 2014.  With a ranges of services for all ages, the focus on primary health care objectives have built pillars of health forming habits and attitudes of the rural Honduran youth.

Five years ago, Third Lens Ministries under the leadership of Lee Carroll and Phil Johnson initiated a conversation to bolster the work of community leaders and their health partners at PREDISAN.  Visiting the region in early 2010 from Atlanta Georgia, the vision grew in sessions on site while eating tortillas and sharing laughs.  Operating out of a primitive wood hut, the health services were limited and strained personnel to provide quality care.  Yet, the local health committee promised labor, local materials and donated land.  Forming a three way partnership, Third Lens recruited construction professionals ranging from architecture to engineering and construction trades developing the plans and resources to build a new facility for expanded and improved delivery of health services.   The center opened in June 2011 in a celebration of collaboration that included many hours of perspiration from many hands.

Today, the Wasparani Health Clinic is an exemplary center for the quality delivery of health care services.  Strategically located in a growing area of pioneer territory in Honduras, the basic principals of building families with proper health are part of an exciting new chapter in Honduras’ rural development.  Compared with the early years of operation in this region, the new facility complete with nurse’s living quarters delivers more than twice as many services and is a landmark symbolizing the hope and future for growing families.
