“Love the Most Marginalized“
– Pastor’s Association
Project Description
The dry season in the high mountains of western Guatemala open the door for the construction launch. As the project enters the month of December, construction activities are in full swing with the local contractor directing the erection of the designed center. The Pastor’s Association of San Lucas has worked closely over the last few weeks with Orphan’s Heart and TL to finalize materials, budget and schedule.
Third Lens joined local leaders to design and coordinate plans for the Rehabilitation Center serving special needs children. The center will be 3,000 square feet dedicated to hosting professional therapists to work with parents and children in building paths to rehabilitated lives. The work to prepare the site and secure the funds has also served to deepen relationships and learn more of the children being reached through this project.
In the isolated mountains outside of San Juan de Ixcoy, alarming numbers of children are born with birth defects. Many are stigmatized in association with superstitious beliefs labeled as a curse to the family and a mark of shame. The interdenominational group of pastors have responded to a call to bring these children out of dark rooms offering families a place to bring their children to begin a path of restoration and rehabilitation. TL began this partnership with a trip in early 2014 traveling to meet with these leaders and listen to the powerful story that has brought communities with a commitment to labor in unity for this cause.
